Wharram Percy Exhibition - Life in a Medieval Village

16th Mar 2009

The Wharram Percy Exhibition has been retained at Malton Museum for its third season due to its popularity.

Visitors staying at our Malton hotels will now be able to find out about one of the most important archaeological excavations of the 20th Century as the museum has now re-opened for its summer season.

Malton Museum is Ryedale’s premier archaeological museum. It is home to a fascinating and imaginatively displayed collection of Roman artefacts discovered locally and steeped in history.

Situated on Market Street in the centre of historic Malton, where our Green Man Family Inn is also located, the museum is an essential stop on any visit to the town.

Visitors to Malton Museum will be able to discover what the excavations revealed about day to day living in Medieval times and also learn about the people who lived at Wharram Percy. This is an opportunity for guests staying at hotels in Malton to find out first hand what life was really like in Medieval times.

This exciting exhibition features a stunning recreation of a village home, complete with life size inhabitants (human and animal!). The museum contains fascinating detail on the replica objects featured, authentic sound effects and atmospheric lighting. When you visit it really is like stepping into a time machine and revisiting the medieval age!

Malton Museum also boasts interactive displays and cabinets highlighting the artefacts recovered during the recent excavations that took place at Wharram Percy and a recreation of the ‘Finds tent’ from these particular digs.

In addition to the renowned Medieval and Roman collections Malton Museum is also home to a social history collection relating to trade, local government, racing and other aspects of the town and it’s surrounding area.

If you are interested in Roman, Medieval or local history and want to know more about the historic market town of Malton then Malton Museum is well worth a visit during your stay in North Yorkshire.
