Sing a Song of Sixpence Exhibition at Castle Howard

The first new exhibition for 2009 at Castle Howard near York is Sing a Song of Sixpence: Children’s Picture Books which takes place from today, Monday 16th March 2009 and is on display until Sunday 30th August 2009.

This fantastic exhibition gives visitors the chance to explore the varied collection of illustrated Victorian children’s books at Castle Howard.

This is a wonderful opportunity for guest staying at our Malton hotels to explore the richly illustrated pages of the many Victorian children’s books normally stored within the bookshelves of Castle Howard. It is in these hidden gems that the imagination of the artist and illustrator really takes off – with the power to inspire readers of all ages!

As well as the imaginative world they represent, the children’s books on display also reveal a fascinating period of technology advances and social change.

The exhibition is full of vibrant illustrations by artists such as Edward Lear, Walter Crane, Randolph Caldecott, Kate Greenaway and George Howard and many of these works will be on display at Castle Howard.

Entry to visitors wishing to see this exhibition is included with admission to the main house.
