A Hidden Gem of North Yorkshire

The quaint market town of Malton sparkles with history and is one of the hidden gems of North Yorkshire.
The town is steeped with history stretching back as far as it’s Roman Heritage, remains of which can be seen by guests staying at our Malton hotels when visiting the town’s museum.
The popular market town is an all year round travel destination and home to two hotels in the English Rose Group, The Talbot Hotel and The Green Man Family Inn.
Guests staying at either of our Malton hotels can see the history of the quaint market town for themselves as they have Market Square on their doorsteps and a traditional street market is held here every Saturday for visitors and locals to enjoy.
In one corner of Malton’s Market Square, the old Town Hall building stands and now houses Malton Museum, which proves a popular attraction with visitors to The Talbot Hotel and The Green Man Family Inn.
When talking about Malton and what it has to offer, Ian Shepherd, a top consultant said:
“We need to make Malton a base for North Yorkshire visitors, as a lot of people don’t know what the town has to offer. There is a lot of pride and enthusiasm in Malton.”
One suggestion to improve Malton for tourists visiting the area is to introduce a project called “Malton Heroes.” The idea of this campaign is to promote the town by displaying its history and the fact that it is a rural working market town with individual shops. One of the priorities of the “Malton Heroes” project is to revive the Dickens Christmas Festival and the town’s carnival with its procession of floats.
Other projects that Malton is looking into for the near future include a series of festivals focusing on food, music, schools and drink and one of the early campaigns will be to promote Easter in the town.
Malton is a quaint market town and the ideal base for visitors to discover Yorkshire. It has good bus and rail links to the coast and York so why not enjoy a short break at one of our Malton Hotels and discover this historic and hidden gem.
